If you haven’t heard of Sarah J Maas or her Throne of Glass series…
I can only portray my feelings in GIF form…
This blog will have NO SPOILERS
OK? Good – so if you haven’t read.. fear not.
With over 250,000 reads on Goodreads and an average star rating of 4.24, there is no wonder Throne of Glass has me going bananas.
I have noticed that I technically haven’t reviewed the Throne of Glass series (I know, I am bullshit) and now being 5 books in I feel I need to talk about this series.. and in turn just about SJ Maas’ complete awesomeness in general.
Bad-ass bitch heroine
Enter Celaena Sardothien she is a trained assassin and is bought before the king after getting her arse kicked for a year in the slave salt mines of Endovier. She is given an ultimatum – work for the king or die. And so it begins the story follows her doing what she does best.. slitting throats and taking names.
For a main character, I have read no better. She is witty, sassy, strong but vulnerable and each chapter slowly shows the reader a little more about Celaena.
“My name is Celaena Sardothien. But it makes no difference if my name’s Celaena or Lillian or Bitch, because I’d still beat you, no matter what you call me.”
― Sarah J. Maas,
SJ MAAS and her fucking cliffhangers
Aw man, this one is definitely a love/hate relationship. Every book finishes with bombs. I can only imagine SJ sitting there after writing one of her nukes and saying “Ohh yeah, this will fuck them up”. Well it does. Thanks.
The small clues SJ leaves throughout the book have you kicking yourself at page 600. Why didn’t we pick up on the hints!? WWHHYY!!??
Evil laugh all you want SJ – you’ve annihilated me with every fucking book.
Now – I won’t go naming names (I will not be held responsible for spoiling the amazingness) but the male involvement in this series is epic.
Some of my favourite quotes are from SJ. Yes I know there are better literary genius’ out there but it isn’t always about how it is written. Sometimes it is about how it resonates to a person. I constantly found myself stopping at the end of a chapter or sentence and taking in her words.
“Libraries were full of ideas–perhaps the most dangerous and powerful of all weapons.”
― Sarah J. Maas,
TV Series Adaptation
Throne of Glass is becoming a TV Series.
Here’s the blurb:
Sarah J. Maas’ best-selling Throne of Glass book series is headed to television. Hulu is developing Queen of Shadows, an epic fantasy adventure TV series based on the books, from the Mark Gordon Company, which will serve as a studio on the project. Kira Snyder (The 100) will write the adaptation, with Anna Foerster (Underworld: Blood Wars) set to direct the potential pilot episode.
God I hope it’s good.
Now go forth and read!
